i installed w3k r2 and when i run the installation of the active directory it
asks me to insert the sp1 disk and is looking for dnsmgr.dll. I insert the
disk but it can't find the file.

Try using the original installation material - the file is usually in the
i386 directory

The the original install material had "slipstreamed" SP1 then this is what
is being requested.

Search the disk for dnsmgr.dl*.*

There may be more than one "dnsmgr.dl_", point the install to each until it

Win 2k3 R2 is a set of 2 disks. Disk 1 is Win 2k3 SP1, disk 2 is the R2
features.

Are you using the first disk?

Go here and download SP1,
